We're looking for a Grooms Supervisor to join us on (Show Name)!

Reporting to the Head of Assets, the Groom Supervisor is ultimately responsible for being the architect of this discipline. They enjoy collaborating and actively participating in pipeline development, training and building out this function with the ultimate goal of producing best in class content! 
This position you will create new processes and standards to push innovation, quality, efficiency, and the evolution of our Groom department.  This foundational role will establish and grow our Groom discipline at WildBrain, define workflows and support studio best practices for high quality productions.

What You’ll Do: 
Build Houdini Templates to streamline the grooming workflow in production 
Review the artist’s work daily and provide feedback for a feature quality production 
Create Creature and Character Grooms including fur, feather and hair 
Define and re-evaluate our Groom processes, workflows and tools to support and further the department’s toolset in conjunction with production and pipeline 
Partner with Groom/Asset TD to develop tools that support the needs of the department 
Collaborate with Heads of Departments to ensure our teams continue to work together towards the same goals and timelines 
Establish training materials and creation of Wiki to document process. 
Assist with the recruitment and the growth of a Groom department to best support production 
Lead and mentor to build a high functioning, growth minded team dynamic 
Provide feedback, assessments and recommendations to Senior Management to improve the quality and performance of the Groom pipeline 
Participate in new project bids defining capabilities, infrastructure needs, costs, and process 
 
What You’ll Bring: 
5+ years’ experience leading and supervising Groom teams in feature and/or episodic productions 
Ability to build and implement scalable groom-rigs and Groom libraries   
Demonstrable knowledge of modern Groom practices in Houdini and their application in breaking down complex Groom problems finding solutions achievable within budget and schedule  
Knowledge of USD related to the Grooming pipeline 
Extensive knowledge of CG pipelines and workflows 
A passion for building up and mentoring others to be better supervisors and artists  
Good knowledge of Flow Production Tracking  
 
Nice to Have:  
Experience working in studios with multiple concurrent projects 
Experience developing with Python, or other object-oriented programming language  
Experience defining and collaborating on tools and software in a professional environment  
Experience with XGen, Yeti or equivalent Groom software packages

Reporting to the Producer, in this position you will play a key role in controlling the overall visual direction. Working closely with clients, you will create cutting-edge, appealing and fresh new looks for each show by infusing them with the latest trends in design. This is an exciting opportunity for an Art Director to be the driving force on some of the top brands in children’s entertainment.
 
Start Date: ASAP Start* 
End Date: Spring/ Summer 2027*

What You’ll Do:
Establish and refine show style 
Develop and oversee show-specific style guides and communicate them to the design team 
Ensure viability while maximizing artistic objectives 
Collaborate with clients on designs that need special direction 
Directly contribute to project design 
Collaborate with VFX and modelling departments to ensure render style matches show art direction 
Attend breakdown meetings and provide input from the art department’s point of view 
Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables 
Provide detailed direction to design team 
Proactively ensure that concepts, designs and desired outputs are obtained within the project timeline and budget 
Identify actions necessary to achieve task completion and to obtain results while meeting schedules, deadlines and performance goals 
Adapt traditional methods, concepts, models, designs, technologies or systems to new applications and devise new approaches to improve current processes and work flow 
Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments 
Work with production team to identify appropriate staffing levels and needs 
Determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the design team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the design team 

What You’ll Bring:
3+ years of art direction experience in animation or television OR equivalent experience 
Understanding of the translation from 2D artwork to 3D models 
Strong 3D design experience for animation 
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills 
Experience in supervising and training, as well as leadership qualities 
Ability to identify strengths and weakness of design team 
Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production 

Nice to Have: 
BA/BFA degree in fine arts or commercial arts field an asset
