Overview

WildBrain is looking for a Lighting/Compositing Supervisor to join our team! 
   
In this role, you will oversee the daily activities of the lighting team and ensure deliverables are completed on time. You will work closely with the Director, CG Supervisor, Lighting artists, and various other teams to successfully meet the show’s technical and creative needs. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Manage the lighting team to deliver show needs on time and at the expected quality level within a Gaffer-based pipeline 
  • Ensure render performance, lighting consistency, and show style cohesion across Gaffer scenes and templates 
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the Director, CG Supervisor, Asset Supervisors, other Heads of Department and Pipeline team 
  • Define lighting scenarios that fit within the show timeline, flagging any concerns to production on a timely manner. 
  • Establish lookdev lighting environment to match the projects needs 
  • Create, establish and maintain best practices, workflow and processes for the lighting/compositing team 
  • Support, assist and mentor team members  
  • Assign, review and approve team members’ work. 
  • Assist with the creation of documentation for lighting guidelines and techniques  
  • Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team  
  • Communicate with other supervisor and team leads on concerns and production issues ahead of time  
  • Be a positive and creative force in building a healthy work and team culture 
  • Provide constructive criticism, wisdom, guidance and feedback that will help further their team’s career development 

 


What You’ll Bring:  

  • Advanced skills and experience in Lighting and Compositing for animated series/feature film 
  • An eye for high-end lighting and ability to drive feature quality on a team 
  • Previous experience in a management role working as a Lead or Supervisor in the Lighting/Compositing department 
  • Experience specifically with Gaffer or other node-graph-based lighting tools (Katana, Solaris) 
  • Experience in Nuke for compositing 
  • Good understanding of modelling, texturing, shading, lighting, compositing and rendering workflows  
  • Ability to take direction, collaborate and be a team player  
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive manner  
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure  
  • Ability to adapt to multiple show styles 
  • Flexibility, openness to direction and ability to embrace change  

   


Nice to Have: 

  • Katana or Solaris experience is a plus 
  • Flow Production Tracking software knowledge is a strong plus 
     

 

This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement.  

Why WildBrain

 

Pay Range:

$2100 - $2900 CAD per week based on a 40-hour work week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
