Overview

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Colour Designer to join the team on our feature film!

In this role, you are an essential creative member of the design team. Working under the supervision of the Production Designer and Art Director, you will execute key colour keys and style guides for the production. In addition, you will work on set and character designs, developing the colour for new and existing design assets ensuring that the show style is maintained at each stage. You will strive to maintain the show style with your designs and keep them working within the story specifications. You train, mentor and motivate new designers on the crew and communicate effective and production-friendly solutions when requested.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do:

  • Create character and set colour style guides for surfacing and fur
  • Create sequential colour keys for lighting.
  • Create graphics
  • Collaborate creatively with the design and modelling departments
  • Keep current with scripts and animatics to inform design choices
  • Learn and adhere to established production methodology
  • Create original designs on show style according to production schedule
  • Ensure design viability is appropriate to the modelling and animation budget
  • Identify and communicate any issues, concerns of efficiencies to production or art director as appropriate
  • Execute changes on designs based on feedback from art director
     

What You'll Bring:

  • Demonstrated feature level digital painting skills
  • Strong understanding of staging with light, colour and value
  • Experience creating colour keys for animated productions
  • Strong technical drawing and colour fundamentals
  • Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to take direction, collaborate with others, and embrace change
  • Strong problem solving skills
