Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the Head of CG and the Director to interpret the artistic vision and define the technical approach that delivers it on schedule and on budget
  • Establish the technical direction and technical foundation of the show, balancing creative ambition against available resources
  • Prototype, validate and sign off on look development, lighting, FX and rendering approaches before they scale to the full crew
  • Keep a critical eye for creativity, continuity between shots, quality control, and technical errors and artifacts
  • Find the balance between what the show wants and what the pipeline, farm and calendar can support and communicate that trade-off clearly and early
  • Oversee and forecast render and storage requirements across the project
  • Act as the primary escalation point for technical issues on the floor, triaging problems and driving them to resolution with minimal disruption to artists
  • Work side by side with the Show TDs to diagnose roadblocks, distinguishing one-off fixes from systemic issues that need a pipeline solution
  • Anticipate and communicate technical risk ahead of time rather than reacting to it, escalating to the Head of CG and Producer when a decision is needed
  • Collaborate with the Head of CG to develop a strong and flexible pipeline
  • Build consensus between technology, artists and production management
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
  • Oversee the daily activities of the CG team and communicate clear expectations, balancing creative desire against production requirements
  • Train and mentor the team on an ongoing basis, both technically and creatively; flag crew training needs to the Head of CG
  • Report daily and weekly on show status across all phases of production to the Producer and Head of CG
  • Ensure production deadlines are met at a quality level in keeping with production requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in animation, VFX or film, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Experience as a CG Supervisor on a feature or high-end episodic production
  • Excellent understanding of the CG production pipeline, with extensive hands-on experience supporting complex look development, lighting, FX and rendering workflows
  • Strong proficiency in Maya, with demonstrable working knowledge across Houdini, Nuke and Gaffer
  • Experience with USD-based workflows and modern colour management (OCIO / ACES)
  • A genuinely combined creative and technical background: able to give a lighting note and then explain the render-time cost of it
  • Methodical troubleshooting ability under deadline pressure, with sound judgement about when to fix, when to work around, and when to escalate
  • Excellent communication skills, organisation and team awareness; able to convey creative and technical ideas professionally and positively
