Overview

WildBrain is looking for a FX Supervisor to join our team! 
 
In this role, you will be a creative a technical eye for the show, reviewing and supporting lighting, FX and compositing stages of the production. You will work closely with the Director and Art Director to achieve the look of the show. The ideal candidate is an experienced artist with a creative eye and the ability to guide and support their team. This position reports to the Producer.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do:

  • Work closely with Director and Art-Director to create the visual level of the show 
  • Work closely with CG Supervisor and Show TD to identify and solve technical issues that arise 
  • Work collaboratively with the Lighting Supervisor to ensure consistency of final pixel 
  • Identify, communicate and implement the FX needs of the production 
  • Manage and support the FX team throughout the show 
  • Review and critique the FX team via dailies or weeklies 
  • Mentor and guide the FX team 
  • Collaborate with pipeline to improve FX process and workflow  
  • Provide bid times for all FX tasks series wide 
  • Ensure complete and seamless integration of all FX assets within the pipeline 
  • Take responsibility for all task assignments to FX team  
  • Review all submitted FX for approval in dailies  
  • Create and maintain FX wiki 
  • Ensure that all production deadlines are met while meeting quality standards 
  • Be part of the recruiting process by assisting the HR department with the development of job descriptions, as well as sourcing and selecting candidates 

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in animation or film industry in FX 
  • 1+ years as a Lead FX Artist 
  • Expert level understanding of modelling, texturing, shading, lighting, compositing and rendering workflows 
  • Experience creating FX within Unreal Engine
  • Experience using Blueprints  and Niagara
  • Experience using Houdini
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure 
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive manner 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently 
  • Highly motivated, pro-active, with a solid work ethic and positive attitude 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in episodic production methodologies is a benefit 
  • Experience with Qube or equivalent render manager is a plus
  • Proficiency in Flow Production Tracking is a plus 
  • Production knowledge of Perforce, or version control software
  • Python scripting
  • Experience with VRay
  • FX Look Dev experience 

 

This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement.

Pay Range: $2000 - $2500 CAD for role, per week based on a 40-hour work week.
