Overview

WildBrain Studios is looking for a Lead Designer to join our team! 
 
Reporting to the Producer, as a Lead Designer you will work with the Art Director to lead the design team to ensure the delivery of expected high-quality designs as required by the production.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

 What You’ll Do:

  • Create original, production-oriented designs through a procedurally iterative process (including turnarounds and other detailed notes) 
  • Provide paint-overs and feedback to assist artists with hitting visual targets
  • Participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas  
  • Maintain the production’s show style and optimize designs for storytelling needs  
  • Support the Art Director with asset approvals, with a particular focus on character and prop assets
  • Communicate effective and production-friendly solutions when production requests are not possible within production timelines  
  • Identify gaps that may exist on assigned episodes and implement solutions to rectify  
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders  
  • Train design team on an ongoing basis both technically and creatively  
  • Communicate expectations to design team while balancing creative desires with the requirements of production  
  • Oversee the daily activities of the design team  
  • Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments 

 

What You’ll Bring:  

  • Experience interfacing with other designers, asset artists, animators and directors 
  • Demonstrated skills with lighting and composition
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to effectively give direction and communicate storytelling - contributes and is receptive to a culture of feedback
  • Ability to identify strengths and weakness of design team 
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production 
  • Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
  • Creative and proactive problem solving skills 
  • Ability to adapt to multiple show styles 

 

Nice to Have: 

  • BA/BFA in fine arts or commercial arts field an asset  

 

This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement. 

Why WildBrain

 Pay Range: $1550 - $1950 CAD, per week based on a 40-hour work week. 
 
Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
