WildBrain is looking for a Production Designer to help us reimagine a globally beloved IP in a way that will exhilarate a coview audience and deliver an elevated and sophisticated series.
As the Production Designer, you will be instrumental in shaping the overall visual direction of this high-end episodic series. Collaborating closely with VFX Supervisor, show runners, clients and studio leadership, you will develop groundbreaking, visually captivating designs that resonate with even the most discerning animation fans. With a keen ability to translate creative vision into Feature quality production art, your work will help to create the visual blueprint for this ambitious project!
This hybrid role will require in person days at our Vancouver Studio. Relocation will be needed for non-local candidates.
What You'll Do:
- Partner with the client’s Production Designer, development team and Studio creative leadership to establish and refine show style
- Develop and advocate for production-friendly solutions that uphold the creative vision of the series. work with other departments to achieve these goals
- Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables
- Explore and present the visual direction for characters, environments/sets, and props to provide the roadmap for the modeling teams during visual development, pre-production, and production while meeting the highest of quality, aesthetically and technically
- Attend breakdown meetings and provide input from the art department’s point of view
Provide detailed direction to design team - Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor to ensure concepts, designs, and desired outputs are within the scope of the project timeline and budget
- Adapt traditional methods, concepts, models, designs, technologies or systems to new applications and devise new approaches to improve current processes and workflow
- Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
- Work with production team to identify appropriate staffing levels and needs
- Determine and understand the needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses of the design team and use this information to contribute to the growth and development of the design team
What You'll Bring:
- Extensive, hands-on experience leading art direction and/or production design in animated feature films, television or video games
- A keen desire to consistently push the boundaries of visual storytelling in animation, raising the bar not only for quality but also for innovation and fresh ideas
- Experience working in development
- Understanding of the translation from 2D artwork to 3D models
- Strong 3D design experience for animation
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop and working knowledge of Maya is required
- Excellent understanding of colour theory and lighting
- Strong sense of story, structure and storytelling principals/techniques
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills
- Experience in supervising and training, as well as leadership qualities
- Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
- BA/BFA degree in fine arts or commercial arts field an asset
Pay Range: $3173 - $3557 per week.
Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
